All my apps use autolayout so adapt just fine. The poster on the Apple developer forum where I first read about the change had some fixed-size view that was now partly off-screen. Apple have been telling us to use autolayout for years and were very clear about using the safe area last when the iPhone X came out. It does seem strange that they never seemed to mention it in the WWDC talks. I think the change is related to a future iPad with Face ID, which will cause problems for some apps. We will see in September!
